New Sheep

Welcome, Ernie and Wooly!

Ernie and Wooly (Mr. Wolensworth) are the newest members of the Jasper Ridge Farm animal assisted therapy team! These two babydoll sheep are 8 and 9 months old. They arrived at Jasper Ridge Farm in early March. Babydoll sheep are called the “smiling sheep” because they look like they have a little smile on their faces. Their gentle nature and wooly coats make them perfect therapy animals. They will create special experiences and make a positive difference in the lives of those they comfort and inspire.

Donate to Support Ernie and Wooly

Caring for Ernie and Wooly costs approximately $300 per month. This includes bedding, feed, care, and shearing. Your generosity will provide comfort and care for Ernie and Wooly and enable them to give love and compassion to many people in our local community.

The (back) story

Ernie and Wooly are from a breeder in Sonoma, California who has been breeding babydoll and babydoll/valois crossbred sheep for many years. These type of sheep have the best dispositions and temperaments. Both breeds are known for being calm, docile, and extremely people-oriented. We were thrilled to meet them! During our visit, Ernie and Wooly followed us everywhere. They enjoyed our attention and hugs. We were very impressed with their wonderful dispositions.

A journey of generosity

We are deeply grateful to two long-time supporters who helped us add these wonderful sheep to the family of healing animals at Jasper Ridge Farm.

Thank you to Tony and Pat Richards of Sun Ridge Systems for your generous donation for Ernie, (named after Tony's favorite baseball player, Ernie Banks), and also to Emily Jones Chabrier for your generous donation for Wooly!
