Help us share the benefits of animal-assisted therapeutic visits for people in need.
Our animals, many of them rescued, play an important role at Jasper Ridge Farm. Through their gentle presence and unconditional acceptance, they bring comfort, joy, and connection to the people we serve. Each animal has a unique personality and special way of making a difference.
Caring for our support animals is a responsibility we take seriously. We prioritize proper nutrition, regular veterinary care, adequate rest, and meaningful enrichment activities to keep them healthy and fulfilled. We believe deeply in the mutually beneficial bond between our animals and the people they support.
Tinker and two new sisters are our hard-working guinea pig team. They love to hang out in cozy pouches and eat treats from our clients! The guinea pigs are the smallest members of the Jasper Ridge Farm family but play an important role. Because of their diminutive size, they are especially appealing to small children, and those with some fear of larger animals.
Luna and Salem were adopted from the Peninsula Humane Society in 2023. They are friendly, soft, and ever popular. Whether hopping around their home pen or their travel pen out on visits, they are always happy to engage with clients. Their velvety-soft fur and expressive ears will capture the hearts of anyone who sets their eyes on them.
The Jasper Ridge Farm flock of hens consists of Ameraucanas, Silkies, Seramas, and many more friendly breeds. Our support chickens love to meet people from schools, hospitals, retirement communities, or just about anywhere! They are popular and unflappable (pun intended) when visiting with children and adults in need. Our hens like to sit in laps, and some will even snuggle their heads into your arms while they take a nap!
These brown- and blue-eyed baby goats are the newest members of the JRF family. They are still learning the ropes of being support animals while growing up at the farm. They are full of energy and always excited to meet new people. They are still waiting on their perfect names to find them. These kids can’t wait to start their new full-time job!
Gizmo is a Nigerian Dwarf Goat, and the older, more experienced member of our goat team. He is a very calming presence for clients, commonly taking snoozes on the job while being brushed. Gizmo surprises and delights by showing off trained behaviors such as standing on his hind legs and shaking hands.
Ernie Banks and Wooley (Mr. Woolensworth) are the fluffiest members of the Jasper Ridge Farm animal assisted therapy team. Wooley is a Spotted Babydoll sheep, and Ernie is part Babydoll and part Valais sheep. They have different textures of wool and they love to be pet during visits. Their personalities compliment each other, and both are the sweetest sheep you’ll ever meet.
Buster is an Olde English Southdown Babydoll Sheep. This special breed is also called "the smiling sheep" because they always have a little smile on their faces. In his younger years, Buster was very popular with our clients for his gentle, placid, and friendly nature. He is now retired from visits but still causes plenty of smiles around the farm!
Kachina, born in 2005, is one of the original support animals of JRF. She is a beautiful silver dapple color, with unusual blue eyes. Kachina loves her job as a support animal and finds it very fulfilling. Her favorite activity is going to local schools to be surrounded by adoring clients, and her mane is perfect for hair-braiding practice.
Yaya was part of a herd of miniature horses rescued by the Peninsula Humane Society, and came to JRF in 2009. Yaya is always ready to give cart rides to our clients and dress up for special occasions. Unbeknownst to us, Yaya was in foal when we adopted her, which brought us Henry.
Our surprise baby was born into life as a support animal at the farm. Henry Kapono earned his name through a "name the baby contest", and has been visited several times by the real Henry Kapono from Hawaii! Our little Henry has enriched the lives of clients since he was 3 days old. Like his mom, he loves dressing up to delight when he goes on visits such as the Ronald McDonald House.
