Jasper Ridge Farm is a small but mighty nonprofit in Portola Valley dedicated to providing joyful, interactive, animal-assisted therapeutic experiences for local children, teens and adults experiencing emotional and physical challenges. We are seeking a hands-on, organized, and self-motivated Facilities & Operations Specialist to help keep our farm running smoothly. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in maintaining vehicles, equipment, and grounds, and who enjoys working in a dynamic outdoor environment.
Hours: 16 hours per week (flexible scheduling)

Location: On-site, Portola Valley, California
Reports to: Executive Director
Maintain a fleet of farm vehicles in safe, clean, and working order, including a GMC truck, horse trailer, minivan, transit van, tractor, pony carts, and utility carts. Responsibilities include monitoring and refilling fluids and tires, coordinating regular service appointments, battery maintenance, and driving vehicles weekly to ensure mechanical readiness.
Inspect and repair fencing, gates, and aviary netting on a regular basis. Maintain a tidy and organized storage barn, implement rodent control measures, and keep security cameras, animal monitoring systems, and motion-activated lighting in working order. Monitor water storage tanks and ensure all ground valves remain accessible.
Perform regular grounds maintenance including mowing, weed whacking, and dust control. Conduct monthly bioswale inspections and prepare the required annual drainage report for San Mateo County. Assist with covered arena upkeep, replenish the chicken villa with fresh dirt, water plants and vegetables, and manage weekly trash and recycling preparation. Oversee volunteers or outside contractors supporting grounds, landscape, or structural projects.
Conduct routine safety checks including monthly fire extinguisher inspections and bi-weekly AED system checks. Ensure the farm meets applicable safety and operational standards.
Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record; experience with trucks, horse trailers, or farm equipment preferred
Hands-on experience with basic facility or property maintenance
Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and self-direct in a low-supervision environment
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and performing physical tasks
Strong attention to detail and a reliable, consistent work ethic
Experience with or comfort around farm animals is a plus
Experience working with or around volunteers and/or youth is a plus
Prior nonprofit or mission-driven organization experience is a plus but not required
